Boss sent my brother and I on another "task". Maybe this time we can make enough
to get out of this town for good.
Seems we were put in charge of a group of adventures that had the misfortune of looking like
they could do what the boss wanted. They were "arrested" and "convinced"
to work for the boss.
The one who does not wear armor call himself a monk of some sort. He has elvish ancestry,
calls names himself Thoth. He
seems to be looking for someone. Money and treasure do not seem to be of interest to him, yet
he stays with the party for some reason. He could easily slip away as he seems to move almost
as unseen as my brother, yet he seems to be loyal to the group, although he seems to have no
strong ties with anybody in the party. He can be counted on in a fight, and does not run easily,
although he doesn't wear armor or carry many weapons (have only seen him fight with his fists,
and a wooden staff.) All he has so far is a sliver arm band, an everburning torch, a jewel
encrusted statue, and a staff
we found. He is mainly just carrying the arm band, torch, and the statue. The only thing he seems to
have any interest for yet is that silly stick we found. He is somewhat strange,
but can be counted on when the chips are down.
I think we might be able to become friends.
Next there was a half-elven Cleric, called herself Feril. She talks a lot about being strong
and being a warrior. She seems to lack a bit in the warrior area though. She talks about
being a warrior, but does not seem ready to step up for a fight, however she does not seem to
run either. I can't complain because she did heal me. Seems like she will be usefully in a
fight
and for healing after a fight, but I don't know if I would call her a fighter.
Next was little gnome with a heck of a big name. Mendanook or something like that. I use the
name monkeyboy as he is about the size of a human child, and he goes around with a monkey. He
seems to have some arcane skills, but does not carry a spellbook like a mage. I felt that
he was going to be useless, but between his magical abilities, and his knowledge, and the fact
that it seem he and his monkey can tell what the other one is feeling, he has proved to be one
of the most valuable additions to the part. Although not a fighter, he know a lot about
the items we have found so far. He has proven his worth more than once. I though he
would be the first one we would burry, but he seems quite nimble and very useful.
Last was a elf ranger. She seems good addition to the party, but very quiet. She is an able fighter
with weapon and sword, but does not have much to say to anybody in the party. She does her
part well, but does it with as little conversation as possible. She does not seem to shun us as
much as just seems to not have much to say to us. Also she seems to have strange preoccupation
with doing in goblins.
After visiting with Allustan and getting some general information, I tried to see if he had any
extra information that could help us. He took my gold piece but told me nothing. The old man
asked for us to bring back information to him, but he will not get accurate information from me.
After gathering up our stuff, we headed to the "Whispering Carian" We entered it and started
exploring it. The wall seemed to have been scared and drawn on over the years, probably kids
and wanders who spent the night in the cave - but the damage did not seem to go further than
the sunlight extended into the structure.
First we found a 4 way intersection, the right path dead ended into a pile of rubble. The left
path had some weird device in the floor. The gnome started to show his worth here by reading
some of the weird symbols on it and finding it was some sort of teleportion device in the past
but it would seem it was now broken beyond use.
We continued in and came upon another 4 way. The ranger(Zamora), Thoth, and I went down the right branch,
while the others went down the left branch. The other group found an interesting painting that
made the room they were in look like it branched out to a bunch of colored passageways. We, however,
found a small hole that Thoth decided to go down. He barely got in when I heard a muffled
grunt, a loud Thunk, and a yelp. I pulled him back out by his leg and a wolf came out snapping
at his face. The wolf had taken a hard hit across his face, but all that Thoth had in his hand
was a torch, and it was undamaged. He must of hit it with is hands, but I cannot for the life
of me see how how he could do that much damage with his hands. The three of us took a swing at
the wolf as it came out, but failed to hit it. It lunged at Thoth, but some how he managed
to wiggle himself away from the wolf's jaws. A second wolf came out of the hole and I took
a swing that cut through both wolves. A third wolf came up that we all swung at, but Thoth
took down with his hands.
The noise raised by the wolves got the other group over to us, As I cleaned my sword, Gorm and
Thoth went into the hole to check out what was beyond. They found a silver bracelet (which the
gnome found later to have no magic), an indigo latnern, and marble finger. We talked some about
the painting they found, and decide to move down the main path again.
As we looked down the path, we noticed a green light. The pathway was covered with spider webs,
that were quickly removed with a torch. We entered the room to find looked just like the pantings
that was found by the other group. The green lantern was light up, and the other paths had torches
that we light up also, along with the indigo torch we set up. The red lantern was missing but
we had them all light up. A quick run back reveled that nothing had happened at the teleport
piece in the floor.
In the middle of the room was a marble tomb, with a carving of a humanoid creature. It was
missing a finger, that Gorm found, and we place it back in place, the other hand was clenched.
Gorm noticed that the tomb looked like it might be trapped, so we decided to leave it unopened
for now. We also noticed an arrow pointing to a lantern. Since nothing happened, I turned
the tomb in a clockwise direction, and it moved. It was pointing at the Yellow lantern, and
a stone cylinder came up. After some discussion, Thoth got impatient and walked into the
cylinder. After a bit of panic we found out he was OK and found out a way to send the cylinder
back up, we all went down, with the monkey in the room to let us know if anything happens.
At the bottom of the cylinder Gorm slid under a slab blocking our way.
Some others tried to join him but it seemed that they were not as agile as my brother. So we
got together (the ranger, the monk, the cleric and I) and pushed. The gnome stood back and watched.
The slab moved, but there was a click (a trap my brother failed to notice). The room behind us
started to fill with a gas, and the gnome pushed us all down the hallway. The gas filled the
room we were in, but did not follow down.
We stated to explore the hallway. along the path were 6 alcoves, on each side of the walls,
in one we found a floating eyeball of some sorts. Gorm took a swing and missed it, and Thoth
smashed it with his hands again. With the threat gone, we continued down the pathway.
Again we came to branch, Gorm, Feril and I took the right branch, while the others went left.
On the floor in front of us we found a brown mold looking substance. It was very cold, and caused
us to have to back up. Feril threw a bag of burning substance at it and grew bigger, hurting Gorm
and myself slightly. We back away and went down the left branch with others.
Down the left branch the other had found a smashed body. The ranger found a lever that lifted
the stone that had crushed the body. The ranger gave the armor to the Cleric, which did not
matter much to me as I as it was full chain and I already had a chain shirt. We later
found that the armor was magicial. I might claim this as mine as the boss said my brother and I
could have first pick of the treasures found. My brother found the trap that had killed the
wearer of the chain mail, and we were able to avoid it, behind where the body was, Gorm found 2
sticks and a pair of goggle. Gorm seemed to be very excited on finding the goggles. The Gnome
found out one of the sticks called up an invisible servant, the other he was unsure of.
Next Thoth, ever in the lead, entered a room across from the smashed body.
It was a stone workshop of some kind, and he found some sort of stone that he touched. When he
did, it made a sort of living stone monster, we all rushed forward to defend Thoth, but it did
not
seem to attack. It spoke some sort of language we did not understand, but as we backed off it
seemed to calm down, we found a loop around to the other side of the cold moss. On the way
there we found an privy that had not been used in some time. We decided we needed some
benches from the workroom to see if we could make them into path over the moss.
Upon reentering the room and lifting up the bench, the stone monster attacked. We didn't want to
kill it, but had to defend ourselves, and we quickly did it in. We got the benches, made a path over
the moss and explored the room on the other side. The moss had grown over some of the beds, but
we could tell there was nothing there. The gnome got interested on the bed on the far side of the
room, without moss, and with a carving of one of those weird creatures over it.
He tied a rope to himself, gave
the other end to Thoth and I and said if he did not say anything,
to pull him back at on a count of
20. He fell asleep as he laid down, and he did not respond to us, so we pulled him back.
He woke up and seemed to have on ill effects.
We then went back into the workroom. The monk found a very nice staff that he took interest in.
I also lifted up the stand that the stone creature came from and carried it back to the elevator
as not even the gnome knew what sort of metal it was, and it was a lot of it. It might be worth
something. The gas had gone and we were able to go back up.
Once we got back up, we decided to turn the tomb again. It turned as before, but there was a rumbling
sound and the cylinder fell in with a crash. Then up out of the hole came a fountain of beetles and
and a creature that looked like a eyeball with spider legs. I stood my ground while my idiot
brother hollered for me to attack them, The eyeball spider was taken down with bows at range.
The gnome tried to throw some alchemist's fire on the beetles, but missed by a mile. He used the
unknown wand on them, when seemed to send some sort of sound at them that seemed to damage them.
But they advanced on him to quickly, and he retreated up the stairs. I swung my sword at the beatles
but it did no real damage to them. My brother,
the brave soul he is, turned tail and ran leaving the bugs to swarm over the top of me,
causing some damage to me. I quickly ran back, as the others
prepared flaming oil and threw on the bugs. This seemed to work so as I ran backwards
I threw a pint of
oil at them that caused the last of them to burn up. The cleric used her abilities to heal my
wounds.
Now we prepare to see what is down the hole that the cylinder left.
