Thoth was orphaned early in childhood. He was taken in by the Monks of the Iron Hand. Showing much promise in his fighting skills, he was apprenticed to Grand Master Kyrzim Sathyr. Thoth dedicated himself not to the order but rather to the Grand Master. Grand Master Kyrzim was the only person that Thoth truly respected and admired.
Through the years Thoth learned the valuable lessons of discipline, confidence, observation, contemplation, and justice. He also furthered his martial skills to the point where he was second only to the Grand Master in fighting prowess. Thoth read and studied the great volume of books and scrolls kept in the order's library. There he found endless information on other cultures, history, geography, and religion. His studies taught him many things of the outside world, yet he remained secluded within the monastery for most of his life. Only when tending the gardens or herding the livestock would Thoth venture out into world. The Grand Master included an invitation to Thoth every time he would journey across the land to visit other monasteries and gather more volumes for the library, but never had Thoth accepted.
Then the day came when the Grand Master did not return from his latest journey. Months after he was to have returned home word was received from Twilight Monastery near Diamond Lake stating the Grand Master had never arrived as was planned. The Grand Master had heard of the Censer and wished to gaze upon this wonder and speak with the wise Izenfen the Occluded. Given the corrupt nature of the people of Diamond Lake and their general attitude toward monds, there was little doubt that he had fallen to foul play.
Blind with rage and grief, Thoth found he could no longer continue life at the monastery. His purpose had turned to seeking the truth about his master's fate and quenching his thirst for vengeance. He retraced his master's path, asking questions along the way and learning that the trail grew cold in Diamond Lake. His fury and impatience rising, Thoth reached the dark, dreary town. He set about visiting the various Inns to see if he could gather any clues.
