I found this model a Wal-Mart for about 6 bucks.  Since I got it so cheap I thought “I am going to abuse this model” and try some thing I have never done before mainly Weathering and Battle Damage..  The model is not very detail, but for pocket change I am not going to gripe.  The seam where the sides of the head meet up were pretty bad and requited a lot of putty and work, but it wasn’t that hard.  I build it and painted it into to pieces the Body and Head.  For battle damage I used my dermal tool with a carving bit to make nicks and pot marks on the surface.  I used Folk Art Country Grey paint as the base color and then did a wash of Vallejo Smoke all over most of the model. It looked ok but it was not what I wanted.  This was the first time I have ever done a wash over a whole model; I tend to just do spots.  I wanted the model to look like it has been on a hostile planet (environment and people) and was not able to maintain the pristine look in the movies.  I tried do red-ish was washes but none of it looked right.  I then purchased some Earth Tones Pastels for a different model (Mad Max Interceptor), and thought why not practice on this model.  I am glad I did.  I had never missed with pastels before but now I love them for weathering.  They were easy to use and realistic.  I used them different than most tutorials I had seen on the net, where they sand the pastel in to a dust and brush them on.  I just drew streaks on the model where the rust would have ran and scrubbed and smooth them on to the surface.  I think it looks pretty good.  For the new blast marks, and pot marks I just took a corner of the pastel and rubbed it into the small hole, the scrubbed with a brush in the circular motion.  It feathered out pretty good.  I then clear coated it with Krylon Matte.  It did not have any effects on the pastels.

Looking at it now I may have over done it on the rust, but for my first time trying any weathering I am quite happy with it.  I wish I had done more with the roof but I could not figure out what to do.  Maybe one day when I get some time I will make a little diorama  for it but it will be a while.
