Revell Star Wars Tri-Fighter Snap Tite
Kit 1852
(http://www.revell.com)

Instructions and Reference Pictures are available

For my oldest sons birthday (6 years old) I got him an X-wing, I had to get one of my youngest son (4 and half) so they would not fight of it and they both love star wars, plus they were about 8-9 dollars with my 40% off coupon. I picked him up the Tri-fighter droid, due to General Grievous on the cover. He likes him due the Lego Star Wars Video Game. Looking back I probably should have gotten him the Scout Walker; he likes them for some reason. But he was happy in the end.

Open Box Review
This model looks simple with just a few parts, but it turns out not to be. There is nice detail on the model and it looks pretty good. The center “eye” is turns and can look any direction. The eye is also semi-transparent and you can see the inner ball.

Spure Shots

Planning
Really no planning on this one either. He just wanted to use the pastel chalk like his brother did. He was a disappointed there was no General Grievous in the box, but he got over that quickly.

Paints and Tools used so far.
Paints: Just used pastle Chalk
Tools: Clipers
Excato Knife

This is not a good first time model, or for a 4 and half year old. The subassemblies were easy and snapped together well, but he main assembly of putting the wings, eye, nose, and back together was not that easy. He was too young to do the model but I let him find the pieces from the instructions, clip the parts free from the spure, and “squeeze” them together. This model does require glue to stay together, the wings like to pop off and not fit right. A little bit of glue really helped that. He liked painting the pastel chalk as well; he just put it on any detail and had no rhyme or reason, which I didn’t expect him to. But surprising he put some on the gun barrels because they should be dirty. I did not think of him having of thought that at all but he did. He had a good time and so did I so that is all that mattered.

Work In progress Shots
This is after we assemebled the model. I had taped off the "Eye" so it would not haze over from the clear coat.

This is the model after my youngest son (4 1/2) painted it with pastels. I think he did a good job for his age and being his first model. Notice the model is already missing a missile. But he has had a good time playing with it.
