Contents: At first I wasn't sure if the game was worth that much. So I wanted around till Christmas to see if I got it, well I did. Now I know the game is worth 50$. I wouldn’t pay much more but I felt I got my money's worth. The Contents of the box are very well made. All the figures are well sculpted and molded. A few of the larger monsters bases a bit warp but nothing I would worry about. The tiles are extremely well made, a simple thing they did was print a pattern on the bottom, and this makes them look a lot more professional. They are of a thick card stock, and don't bend very easily. All the little "chits" are of the same make most are double sided serving different function. This sometime makes it difficult to find the correct chit when you need a certain one. The contents are a bit hard to get back in the box once you are done playing. The doors are a bit hard to put on their stand but once done you never need to do it again..
Game play: There is one invader and 1-3 marines. Each player picks the person they want to play. The invader (AKA bad guy) draws his cards from the invader deck, while each marine draws his cards for the marine deck. The marines get different bonuses depending on cards they draw. This helps keep the game random. You then select the mission or select the next if doing a campaign. You lay the tiles out as the player goes from section to section. This is a bit time consuming but as the players enter a new section you can read out to them a "story" section. This allows for home made scenarios to be made. Some nice people have even created tools for this purpose. You can find the link bellow. The game is very different in the way the dice work. There are no six sided die or ten sided die per say. There are different color die and each dice has a different number of "hits", "bullets" or misses. This makes the game even more random especially in part of ammo. You use the number of bullets that you roll, so you could shoot a monster and not use any ammo or you may miss and use 2-3 ammo. This makes the chainsaw look very nice to use. Each weapon also has different traits. The Goal for the Marines is just to survive and exit the red door, sounds simple enough. The Invaders’ goal is to frag (aka kill) the marines are certain number of times. The Marines get to respawn. Here is the drawback to the game. The more marines that play, the easier for the invader to win. A few house rules can fix that though. The invader gets to draw cards to use against the players. They can be trouble cards or Monster. But the trick with monsters is that if there are no miniatures left that monster can't be played. This balances out the game pretty well.
House Rules:
Rule 1: We play were you lay the whole board out at the beginning, other than secret rooms or rooms that can only be teleported to. Also don't lay out any doors so the players can't guess were the read door is.
Rule 2: I like to let the marines draw their "skill" cards in a pool and they can pick out the ones that want to play will, so it seems more like they were a team sent there instead of a random players.
Rule 3: Instead of a total frag count for the invader to win, we treat these a lives of the player. Once they are out the don't respawn so if the last guy makes it out of the level they can all start the next level, but the surviving player gets to keep his weapons and ammo, they restart start from scratch.
Conclusion: This is a really fun game and I believe it worth the money. I like the "video" game feel of the game. It is a simple game to play, but could take a little while. If you know the rules the game will take a 2-2 hours per level played. If you have the money I would suggest picking it up.
